A Modern Guest House Makeover

Hey! I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted, but it’s not because I don’t love you. Promise! I’ve been working away on projects, but I’m excited to start sharing here again. I have Momma updates and design ideas I want to share. So, I will be making that a priority. Right now, I’m excited to share with you a project I recently had the chance to work on. It was a small over-the-garage guest house that was dark and outdated. It just needed to be freshened up! Let’s jump in and take a look at the “Before” shots.

The space hadn’t been updated for about 15 years. So, it was definitely time. The homeowner simply wanted to give it a facelift and make it a comfortable place for family and friends.

I was tasked with keeping the bed, TV stand, and desk. Those things and the hardwood floor color really drove the design. I decided to bring in some modern artwork and really play off the light wood tones. My goal was to make it a fresh, warm and modern home away from home.

I originally proposed a warm color on the main part of the walls and white on the ceiling. The homeowner really liked the existing color, but it really darkened the room. So, I chose a color a few steps down from that tone. However, the painter wisely suggested going with one color because of the many angles and no clear ending to the ceiling. In the end, the homeowner decided that going with white all over would be best and I agreed. It really brightened up the space. Check out the end result.

So, there you have it. I love the transformation. It didn’t take much to make it feel like a completely different space. Let me know what you think in the comments!
